Frequently asked questions
Why is my real paycheck different?
Withholding depends on your W-4, benefits, local taxes and bonuses. This calculator estimates the tax you owe for the year spread evenly across paychecks.
Which states have no income tax?
Alaska, Florida, Nevada, New Hampshire, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington and Wyoming do not tax wages. Set the state rate to 0% for these.
Does contributing to a 401(k) reduce my taxes?
Yes. Traditional 401(k) contributions come out before federal and most state income tax, so each dollar saved costs less than a dollar of take-home pay. They still count for Social Security and Medicare.
